Job Description





JOB SUMMARY




The Weld Engineer will apply knowledge in welding operations, supporting manufacturing assembly operations. Supporting the maintenance and production teams utilizing technical expertise related to welding technologies and operations, the Weld Engineer will assist in training of maintenance technicians as well as advanced troubleshooting repairs, programming, and process improvements. This candidate will lead throughput improvement/maintenance projects from inception to completion by providing proper leadership and technical knowledge for the maintenance and operations teams. The Weld Engineer will support new product launches and advancements in new technologies.




DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




1.     Recommend and implement process improvements through optimization of welding operations;


2.     Assist maintenance technicians with troubleshooting activities, and implementation of corrective actions;


3.     Assist with the development of corrective and preventive maintenance procedures, as well as training maintenance technicians in their use;


4.     Identify, develop, and deliver training relevant to welding operations and systems;


5.     Collect, monitor, and implement corrective actions for down time issues resulting from welding operations;


6.     Participate in engineering change teams, manage and execute projects for implementation of changes;


7.     Remain current with most recent trends and technology related to weld/robotic applications;


8.     Investigate and recommend continuous improvement initiatives;


9.     Assist with design, plan, layout, installation, and trial runs of new equipment and/or relocation of existing equipment;


10.  Adhere to Quality, Safety, and Environmental standards, policies, and procedures; ensuring compliance by vendors, contractors, and subordinates;


11.  Understand and adhere to all required GPS standards;


12.  Participate in the creation and support of systems, documentation, and actions to ensure conformance to Quality (IATF, TS) and Environmental (ISO) management systems;


13.  Assist with the development and maintenance of process documentation, including standardized work instructions;


14.  Actively participate in Layered Process Audits;


15.  Participate in and cooperate with internal and external certification audits, and customer audits, responding to requests for information and answering questions;


16.  Support maintenance through spare part usage minimization and achievement of R&M Budget targets;


17.  Develop and maintain proper weld documentation;


18.  Support quality department with weld related quality items;


19.  Perform additional tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate.





Job Requirements





EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE




1.     Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Welding Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering or other related technical discipline plus three (3) years of experience in a welding/robotic environment;


2.     -or- Associate of Science degree in Welding Technology plus five (5) years of welding experience in a welding/robotics environment;


3.     -or- Seven (7) plus years of experience and training in a similar role and environment. 





KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES




1.     Full scope of knowledge in Robotic MIG welding systems;


2.     Common programming knowledge of robotics and weld controls for welding of milled steel, hybrid and organic coated materials;


3.     Robust MIG welding skill set


4.     Solid proficiency with weld control systems (Lincoln, Miller, Fronius, ABB robotics);


5.     Demonstrated familiarity with projection nut and stud welding;


6.     Ability to read and interpret prints / weld drawings;


7.     Desire to work in a team-based, lean-manufacturing environment;


8.     Willingness to travel for training, and as other business needs may dictate.
