Job Description


  • Accountable for providing support and removing barriers for Operations Team Leaders and Team Members to achieve manufacturing excellence. Supports, trains, and coaches Team Leaders in all essential functions and skill sets that are required to resolve problems and continuously improve operational systems. Accountable for the performance of the Value Stream under their supervision. Directs and supervises daily production activities including manpower allocation and scheduling of production in assigned areas. Assists the Operations Manager in meeting all measured performance targets related to Safety, Quality, Productivity and Cost on a continuous basis.



  • Accountable for manufacturing results by communicating job expectations; planning production, monitoring operations, and appraising job performance and results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training and mentoring team leaders; creates opportunities for personal development and growth for all employees under their span of control.

  • Maintains work flow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; auditing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.

  • Monitors the production environment and identification of abnormal and out-of-standard conditions to be followed by prompt implementation of countermeasures (both temporary and permanent). This would be served by frequent plant walkthroughs, frequent audits of 5S and standardized work, careful attention to process- and team-level management boards, and good working relationships and open communication links with front line team members and team leaders. The top priority is to take preventative actions that maintain worker safety, product quality, overall equipment effectiveness, productivity, and cost targets. In particular (and in contrast to the Team Leader), the group leader will take particular interest in addressing system level impacts of these issues and on effective interfacing between operations in the value stream.

  • Development of effective staffing and resource deployment plans to meet production needs. This includes daily personnel deployment in zones as well as training and skills development plans (cross training plans). Such plans should take a long-term perspective to accommodate the personal development needs for capable individuals, absenteeism/vacations, anticipated staff transitions (e.g. retirements, transfers), and capability to flex resources for plant load and mix variations.

  • Continuous improvement leader for the shift

  • Responsible for the determination and optimization of the production process.

  • Inputting production data (for Continuous Improvement Reporting) into Microsoft excel.

  • Trains, directly supervises and communicates to the employees regularly the production and safety guidelines.

  • Leads individual and team meetings.

  • Along with the Assembly Manager, conducts performance evaluations of the employees.

  • Consistently practices and communicates the company’s policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for the recommendation of discipline, accountability, counseling and corrective actions for all direct reports.

Must be available to work an off-shift.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience 

  • Associates + degree preferred

  • Minimum 6 years of production experience in automotive industry required

  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience required

  • Computer experience required
