Job Description

Supervise quality activities supporting production, including manpower allocation and scheduling of Quality Team Leaders & Associates, Supplier Quality HOLD & sort area, launch containment, and weld verification (UT/NDT & ‘Cut and Etch’).  Assist the Quality Manager in meeting or exceeding all targets related to Safety, Quality, and Productivity.

  1. Daily supervision of Quality personnel, including Quality Associates, Team Leaders, & Weld Verification Associates (UT/NDT/Cut & Etch).
  2. Take a lead role in coaching/teaching the Operations organization to fully implement the Gestamp Alabama Quality Management System.
  3. Key management position responsible for quality containment.
  4. Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  5. Support in relevant areas of the environmental management system.


  1. Insure the continued health and safety of all subordinates, including any sub-contractor working in the area.
  2. Supports the Quality Performance Metrics related to Safety, Quality, Cost & Delivery
  3. Develop work instructions, procedures and training on processes relating to the activities of associates and team leaders in the Quality Department.
  4. Care and management of quality checking fixtures, including workplace organization and support to periodic calibration and repair requirements.
  5. Must have flexibility to work overtime on a daily basis and weekends as required with short notice.
  6. Responsible for quality support activity on all shifts.  Primary assignment is on day shift, but must have ability to directly supervise evening shift activity one week per month.
  7. Will manage attendance and payroll of all quality associates and temporary employees performing work for quality activities.
  8. Support Quality Engineers in APQP activities.
  9. Participate with Process Engineers, Quality Engineers, and Operations Group Leaders in activities that will improve safety, cost, efficiency, performance and customer satisfaction.
  10. Will maintain and order specific supplies required for quality daily activities.
       Be able to proficiently perform and/or know all job related functions of the quality support activity.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience 

  1. A degree in a technical discipline, or an associate degree plus minimum 3 years of supervision experience, or minimum of  7 years’ experience supervising in an automotive component manufacturing environment.
  2. Automotive sheet metal component experience strongly desired.
  3. Have worked in a manufacturing environment based on teamwork.
  4. Computer literacy with MS Office, and other business systems software applications.
            Certified Quality Engineer or Certified Quality Auditor a plus.

Additional Skills and Abilities

  1. Proven effective delegation skills and time management skills.
  2. Able to reason and evaluate different and changing situations with the skill to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  3. Must have excellent attendance record.
  4. Knowledge of TS16949.  (Trained Internal Auditor a plus.)
            Able to work under pressure and meet stringent timelines.
