Job Description


The Press Shop Manager is responsible for overall stamping press systems, processes and operations, supporting maintenance and manufacturing teams. Utilizing technical expertise related to stamping technologies and systems, the Press Shop Manager will lead equipment and process improvement initiatives. The candidate will assist in training of technicians and operators as well as advanced troubleshooting repairs, programing, and process improvements. The Press Shop Manager will lead product launch activities and throughput improvement projects from inception to completion by providing proper leadership and technical knowledge for the maintenance and operations teams. This candidate will ensure proper staffing, training, tools, safety, quality, and delivery objectives are achieved in the most cost effective manner.


1.     Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate the operations of stamping press related activities;

2.     Ensure achievement of SQDCM targets in press shop operations;

3.     Lead press production and tooling departments;

4.     Recommend and implement process improvements through optimization of stamping operations;

5.     Develop and implement a proactive approach to ensure maximum press equipment uptime through predictive and preventive maintenance procedures, as well as training technicians in their use;

6.     Identify, develop, and deliver training relevant to stamping press operations and systems;

7.     Lead daily production meetings to communicate goals and provide feedback on overall team performance;

8.     Collect, monitor, and implement corrective actions for down time issues resulting from press operations;

9.     Participate in engineering change teams, manage and execute projects for implementation of changes;

10.  Remain current with most recent trends and technology related to stamping applications and systems;

11.  Investigate and recommend continuous improvement initiatives;

12.  Assist with design plan, layout, installation, and trial runs of new equipment and/or relocation of existing equipment;

13.  Adhere to Quality, Safety, and Environmental standards, policies, and procedures ensuring compliance by vendors, contractors, and associates;

14.  Understand and adhere to all required GPS Standards;

15.  Perform and document all press operations in a safe manner;

16.  Participate in the creation and support of systems, documentation, and actions to ensure conformance to Quality (IATF, TS), Safety, and Environmental (ISO) management systems;

17.  Assist with the development and maintenance of process documentation, including standardized work instructions;

18.  Actively participate in Layered Process Audits;

19.  Participate in and cooperate with internal and external certification audits, and customer audits, responding to requests for information and answering questions;

20.  Support maintenance through spare part usage minimization and achievement of budget targets;

21.  Develop and maintain proper press documentation;

22.  Maintain compliance with all company policies and Health, Safety, and Environmental regulatory requirements;

23.  Ensure safe work practices are being followed by all team members;

24.  Support quality department with press related quality items;

25.  Assist with root cause analysis initiatives, and implementation of equipment related corrective actions;

26.  Establish and monitor departmental KPI’s and customer satisfaction metrics to drive operational effectiveness;

27.  Lead and support the attainment of site budgets and objectives relating to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost;

28.  Build and enhance relationships with internal teams and vendors, facilitating effective business partnerships and issue resolution.

29.  Perform additional tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate.

Job Requirements


1.     Bachelor of Science in Engineering plus four (4) years of stamping operations;

2.     -or- Technical Certificate or Tool & Die journeyman’s card with eight (8) to ten (10) years of management experience;

3.     Experience in automotive metal forming and tooling operations; transfer press experience.


1.     Full scope of knowledge in stamping press operations; chassis components preferred;

2.     Metallurgy experience (ultrasonic testing, tensile testing, oil coating, metal coating, circle grid analysis);

3.     Ability to read and interpret prints/drawings;

4.     Desire to work in a team-based, lean manufacturing environment;

5.     Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills;

6.     Demonstrated ability to lead teams and projects;

7.     Willingness to travel for training, and as other business needs may dictate.
