Job Description

JOB SUMMARY




Develop and manage a new Laser Process Cell, and carry out R&D activities geared towards innovative Product/Process technologies.




DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




  1. Assist Product Development Engineers in introducing R&D team competences and innovative technologies that achieve lightweight solutions. 

  2. Plan, execute and document results of Pilot cell, conducting trials and product performance investigations.

  3. Develop tests and experiments with tools using variable parameters to join aluminum or dissimilar materials.

  4. Identify and propose laser procedures for the new oncoming processes such as remote laser welding, cladding, aluminum laser welding, tactile or direct laser welding.

  5. Investigate alternative joining solutions such as friction-stir and self-riveting technologies in order to join dissimilar materials, such as ultra-high strength steel to aluminum. 

  6. Provide support for the Global R&D group by identifying joining and laser processing research needs and translating them into manufacturing technologies.

  7. Define and assure quality requirements cab be achieved, supported by robust feasibility studies.

  8. Ensure manufacturing validation is successfully completed, and technology is transferred to Divisions for all innovative developments. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



1.    Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Laser Physics and/or related technologies.


2.    Global knowledge of joining and laser technology is required.  


3.    Metallurgical background in Aluminum, Ultra High Strength Steels and Hot Forming is a plus.


4.    Highly motivated to experiment and innovate, while ensuring validation plans are completed.


5.   Knowledgeable in Robot programing, lasers, welding heads, and corresponding measurement systems.


6.    Understanding of required safety and quality systems for laser cells is important.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES



1.    Knowledge of manufacturing, design and engineering,


2.    Ability to demonstrate/validate new technologies in close collaboration with both customers and Gestamp operating Divisions. 


3.    Ability to represent company in a positive manner under all conditions involving direct customer interface.


4.    Ability to communicate professionally, in both written and oral formats.
