Job Description


CMM Program position is the primary support for development and ongoing maintenance of Dimensional Reporting programs and/or templates.  Support Dimensional Control activities related to measurement of component part and component assemblies.  Additionally, the CMM Programmer position will mentor other team members to enhance skill levels and competencies. CMM Programmer position provides direct support to Operations Quality and Process Engineering team by providing concise, accurate dimensional summary.  

Works with multi-functional teams to develop a sound dimensional reporting structure for Gestamp Alabama Metrology Team utilizing various Dimensional Control reporting software. Primary function in this position is utilization of multiple dimensional reporting software (Pi-Web, CM4D, FARO SPC, Datamyte) and CMM operating language (Metrologic, CAM2, PC-Demis). CMM Programming position will generate the appropriate reporting templates and structure. In addition to programming responsibility, this position will take an active role in the completion of the scheduled measurement cycle and assist with operation of CMM equipment and training of team members with lesser skill- sets.  Must have communication skills to interaction across multiple tiers of the Organization.

Self-starter, motivated, ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  1. Develops templates and reporting formats that work and responsible development of operating programs for automated CNC-drive and manual CMM to provide accurate dimensional reporting and test structure.
  2. Performs and/or assist with review and evaluation of CMM holding fixtures, component part and assembly inspection fixtures to determine if fixture is adequate for task.  Verifies the reporting software is applicable for the job and is in the correct Customer requested format. Proposes solutions to potential issues relating to fixture and measurement process as necessary.
  3. Demonstrated ability to utilize formal Inspection Standards, understands GD&T, and interprets 2D and 3D math data models to develop appropriate measurement plan and train team members as necessary in use.  Verify correct tolerance schemes are uploaded into reporting software.
  4. Performs and/or assist with calibration of inspection fixtures, gauges, holding fixture, hand held Metrology tools, etc. per the established schedule. 
  5. Performs and/or assist with repair / rework / modification of existing inspection tools.  Develops the appropriate report tools for inclusion in the Plant Calibration Recall system.
  6. Validates coordinate points, assist with measurement of statistical control points and significant characteristics.  Has basic working knowledge of hand-held data collection equipment and assists with data-dumps into designated file folders.
  7. Understands and utilizes Math Data in various models, programs, and formats.
  8. Develop technical illustrations - (isometric) as needed.  Technical drawings may include parts and fixture concepts.
  9. Interpret drawings and plots as necessary and demonstrate the ability to identify the appropriate coordinate plane for the measurement plan. 
  10. Demonstrated ability to mentor team members with use of existing Metrology tools, software, and techniques.
  11. Assist CMM operations team members at the direction of the Metrology Lead with multi-tasking as team members will operate multiple machines and / or operations simultaneously.
  12. Professionally represents Gestamp when inter-acting with Customer representatives regardless of the location.
  13. Assist with reverse engineering activities related to corrective action and / or process improvement activities.  Develop, update, and modify software programming and/or templates to support.
  14. Assist with maintaining Calibration Recall database and activities relating to fixture maintenance repair, and performing fixture calibration and certification. 
  15. Assist with maintaining gage and fixture pin library.  Must be able to develop basic drawings and sketches for replacement pins and components.
  16. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite software.
  17. Maintains Calibration Recall database and coordinates activities relating to fixture maintenance, repair, and performing fixture calibration and certification.  Machinist background is a plus.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Any other duties as prescribed by supervision. Demonstrate professional knowledge and understanding of the Gestamp Employee Hand-book and consistently adheres to outlined procedures and requirements relating to behavior patterns and technical skills and abilities.

Job Requirements


High School Diploma minimum:

While a formal technical degree from an accredited technical or under-graduate program is not required, the team member will demonstrate understanding of software application and program development with fixture and gage concepts through experience (advanced education with minimal or no experience may be considered).  Demonstrate understanding and application datum schemes, measurement systems, and application of GD&T


Additional Skills and Abilities

Maintain a working knowledge of Metrology software, hardware and tools, the capabilities and limitations of each

2.   Maintain a working knowledge of Metrology software, capabilities and limitations.  Programmer will with other team members to develop the ability to write free-state measurement programs for both CNC-drive and Manual measurement systems.

3.   Maintain a working knowledge of the fixture and gage concepts, with the ability to inter-act with engineering support teams.  Ability to use basic fabrication tools is a benefit.

4.   Understanding and implementation of TS-16949 and VDA requirements relating to the Metrology team in support of the Gestamp Quality System.

5.   Be able to operate a fork-truck, over-head crane, and other material handling systems.  Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Gestamp fork truck operator’s license, understand and perform basic over-head crane operator maintenance and document inspection activities.
